Campaigner SMS and Free Trial
Aero Marketing is an independent publication. We are not Campaigner, and Campaigner has no involvement in what we publish. Some links on this site may be affiliate links; where they are, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, and it never changes our verdict. How we’re funded. SMS and trial details below were compiled in August 2026 from independent reviews and user-review platforms. Campaigner’s own site was not reachable to us at the time of writing, so figures should be confirmed before you buy.
Campaigner sells itself as an email and SMS platform, and the combination is genuinely useful — a cart-abandonment sequence that follows an ignored email with a text converts better than either channel alone.
But “email and SMS platform” covers a wide range of capability, and Campaigner’s SMS sits at the simpler end of it. Two things are missing that most people assume are standard, and it is much better to find out now than after you have migrated.
The short version
Short answer: Campaigner SMS is outbound-only text messaging that can run inside email automation workflows. It does not support MMS and does not support inbound or two-way messaging. It is billed on top of an email plan — Business News Daily reported $45 a month for up to 1,000 sends — and it has almost no user-review footprint, so it is largely untested in public.
The two things Campaigner SMS cannot do
1. No two-way messaging
Business News Daily and business.com both report that Campaigner does not support incoming text messages. Business News Daily describes the absence of MMS and inbound messaging as “significant gaps in messaging functionality”.
In practice this rules out keyword opt-ins (“text JOIN to subscribe”), SMS customer service, reply-based surveys, appointment confirmations that accept a reply, and any conversational flow. Your messages go out; nothing comes back.
2. No MMS
No images, no GIFs, no video in a text message. For retail and ecommerce — where showing the product is the entire point — that is a real constraint.
A note on conflicting sources. At least one blog claims Campaigner supports MMS, two-way SMS, STOP-reply handling, short codes, quiet hours and frequency capping. That directly contradicts two established review sites writing fifteen months apart, and the site carries the hallmarks of machine-generated content. We are flagging it because you will probably encounter it, and because our methodology requires us to say which source we trust and why. We trust the review sites here.
What it does do well
The strength is integration with email rather than SMS sophistication. SMS can be sent as a standalone campaign or as a step inside an automation workflow, which means one journey can span both channels — email first, text as follow-up, with branching based on what the subscriber did.
- SMS as a step inside email automation workflows
- Event- and trigger-based sending
- Recurring campaigns
- Personalisation and segmentation carried over from the email side
- A free long-code phone number included with the SMS bundle
That cross-channel capability is the reason to consider Campaigner SMS at all. If you want it purely as a standalone texting tool, a dedicated SMS platform will do more for the money. Where it earns its place is bolted onto the automation depth we cover in our Campaigner automation guide — and remember that workflows themselves need a higher tier.
What SMS costs
Business News Daily reported an SMS bundle at $45 per month, including a free phone number and up to 1,000 monthly sends, with custom packages beyond that. That figure is from March 2025 and we could not re-verify it, so treat it as indicative.
The important structural point is that SMS is charged on top of an email plan rather than included in one. Reviews that describe Campaigner SMS pricing as “bundled” appear to be quoting the combined figure, which is why published SMS prices for Campaigner look so much higher than its email prices.
| Cost element | Reported figure | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Email plan | From $14/mo (Essentials) or $35/mo (Advanced) | See our pricing guide — rises with contact count |
| SMS bundle | ~$45/mo for up to 1,000 sends | Reported March 2025; includes a phone number |
| Above 1,000 sends | “Custom packages” | No published rate |
| Reputation Defender | +20% of monthly plan | Optional list-hygiene add-on |
| Automation workflows | Advanced tier or above | Required for SMS-in-workflow |
Add those together and a modest email plan with SMS and list hygiene is meaningfully more than the $14 headline suggests. That is not a criticism unique to Campaigner — most platforms in this bracket unbundle — but it should be in your comparison. Our Campaigner pricing guide works through the rest.
The 30-day free trial, and the catch
Short answer: Campaigner offers a 30-day free trial — longer than most competitors — but a credit card is required to start it, and there is no permanently free plan. Four independent sources agree on the length and the card requirement.
Thirty days is genuinely generous. Most competitors offer 14, and a month is long enough to build a real workflow, send to a real segment and judge deliverability yourself — which matters, because as we found in our deliverability guide, no independent test of Campaigner’s inbox placement exists.
What we could not verify is what the trial restricts. No established source documents send caps, contact caps or feature locks during the trial. If a specific capability is the reason you are trialling, confirm it is available before you start rather than discovering the limit on day 20.
Cancelling — read this before you start
This is the part worth slowing down for, because it is the most consistent complaint about Campaigner across review sites, and it has nothing to do with the product itself.
A G2 reviewer writes: “If you cancel, beware they’ll hit you for another billing cycle unless you give them 30 days notice.” On Capterra, one user reported being charged after a trial converted without a cancellation confirmation; others describe being “locked into a recurring billing”, inflexible contracts, and in several cases disputing charges with their card issuer.
We want to be careful here. These are user reports, not documented policy — we could not find Campaigner’s stated cancellation terms, and one person’s billing dispute is not a company policy. But the theme recurs often enough across two independent platforms that it would be dishonest not to mention it.
- Put a reminder in your calendar for day 20, not day 30, so you have notice time
- Get any cancellation confirmation in writing
- Read the terms you accept when you enter your card — specifically the notice period
- If you are trialling with no intention to buy, decide early rather than letting it roll
None of this means don’t trial Campaigner. It means treat the card entry as a commercial decision with a diary entry attached.
Who this suits
Campaigner SMS makes sense if…
- You already want Campaigner for its email automation and SMS is a useful addition rather than the reason you are buying
- Your SMS use is outbound notifications — order updates, cart nudges, offers, reminders
- You want text as a step inside a longer email journey rather than a separate channel
- You are on the Advanced tier or above, where the workflows live
Look at a dedicated SMS platform if…
- You need two-way conversations, keyword opt-ins or SMS support
- You need MMS — product images, GIFs, video
- SMS is your primary channel rather than a supporting one
- You need documented coverage in specific countries
- You want a product with a visible user-review track record — Campaigner’s SMS has almost none
That last point deserves its own sentence. Across G2 and Capterra we found essentially no substantive user feedback on Campaigner SMS at all. For a product this old, that absence suggests very low adoption — and it means you would be buying without the benefit of other people’s experience. If that is uncomfortable, our alternatives guide covers platforms with better-established SMS.
Frequently asked questions
Does Campaigner support two-way SMS?
No. Business News Daily and business.com both report that Campaigner does not support incoming text messages. SMS is outbound only, so subscribers cannot reply and you cannot run keyword opt-ins or SMS conversations. If two-way messaging is part of your plan, Campaigner cannot do it.
Does Campaigner support MMS?
No. The same two sources report no MMS support, meaning you cannot send images, GIFs or video in a text message. Some blogs claim otherwise; those claims contradict the established review sites and we would not rely on them.
How much does Campaigner SMS cost?
Business News Daily reported an SMS bundle at $45 per month including a free phone number and up to 1,000 monthly sends, with custom packages above that. That figure dates from March 2025, so confirm it before budgeting. SMS is charged on top of an email plan, not included in it.
Can Campaigner send SMS inside an automation workflow?
Yes, and this is its main strength. SMS can be sent as a standalone campaign or as a step inside an email automation workflow, so you can build a single journey that uses both channels. Note that automation workflows themselves require a higher plan tier.
How long is the Campaigner free trial?
30 days, which is longer than most competitors offer. Four independent sources agree on the length. A credit card is required to start, and it is not a permanently free plan — Campaigner has no free tier.
Does the Campaigner free trial require a credit card?
Yes. Both Business News Daily and TechRadar state that credit card details are required to begin the trial. Users on review sites report the trial converting to a paid subscription, and some describe needing 30 days’ notice to cancel, so set a reminder well before day 30.
Which countries does Campaigner SMS work in?
We could not verify this. No source we found publishes a supported-country list. Campaigner launched in the UK in 2021 with combined email and SMS marketing, and its SMS reviews are US-focused, but that is not a country list. Ask Campaigner directly before assuming coverage.
SMS pricing and trial terms change, and the $45 bundle figure dates from March 2025. Confirm current terms with Campaigner before you commit, and tell us if you find a discrepancy — we check and correct under our corrections policy.
